Description:
Session 6 of the DRC provided participants with information about the focus area of evacuation. Details on why it is important to have protocols for various aspects of your hospital’s evacuation plans were discussed (i.e., evacuations of units [NICU, PICU, ED, patients with special healthcare or medical technology needs], floors, full facility evacuation). Evacuations that are planned in advance and those that occur in response to a no-notice event were covered.
Objectives:
- List the benefits of selecting the evacuation focus area for a DRC improvement project
- Explain why it is important to have pediatric evacuation protocols in your hospital’s disaster plan
- Understand the need to include various approaches to evacuation in disaster planning
