Description:

Session 6 of the DRC will provide participants with information about the focus area of evacuation. Details on why it is important to have protocols for various aspects of your hospital’s evacuation plans will be discussed (i.e., evacuations of units [NICU, PICU, ED, patients with special healthcare or medical technology needs], floors, full facility evacuation). Evacuations that are planned in advance and those that occur in response to a no-notice event will be covered.

Objectives:

  • List the benefits of selecting this focus area for a DRC improvement project.
  • Explain why it is important to have protocols for evacuation in your hospital’s disaster plan.
  • Describe strategies for planning to evacuate various areas within the hospital (e.g., unit, floor, full facility) in both a planned evacuation and a no-notice disaster event.
