Published October 17, 2024

In this 5-minute video, Ron Ruffing, MD, MPH, MSP, FAAP, the PPN lead for the Deployable Assets domain, discusses the barriers identified during a two-year survey of the Pediatric Medical Operations Coordinating Cells (P-MOCC). He emphasizes their experiences and lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent “tridemic” of 2022, which included influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and COVID-19. His insights are informed by presentations, interviews, published reports, and follow-up conversations.  The video concludes that P-MOCC plays a vital role in promoting equitable access to critical care during periods of high demand.

The video discusses 5 key elements:

  1. Information sharing
  2. Stakeholder engagement
  3. Problem of secondary transport
  4. Pre-event cooperative agreement
  5. Unresolved problems
